The sizes of the files vary, but they can be absolutely massive, one that I saw the other day was a 3GB INDD file that also had 9GB of links. They work with design files - InDesign mainly but also Photoshop and Illustrator, and they're on Catalina. What kind of files are they working with and file sizes, and what version of macOS ? Interesting that it isn't as quick still though, our (albeit anecdotal) response from users has been the opposite, but not a lot of difference in it according to them! Yeah I was aware they had updated the default to SMB some time a while back. By the way: SMBv3 has been the default (attempted protocol) in macOS since circa macOS (X) 10.10 I timed the copies myself and the difference was shocking. Is all of this still an issue or is it effectively resolved?ĭavid_CSG wrote:Testing with 10.15/Catalina & Acronis, speeds were roughly double those seen with native SMB and Windows server 2019 (iirc, possibly 2016).ĭoesn't fit with the feedback we've been getting. I can't really remember the extent of the SMB compatibility issues that we used to have, as it was a good 6 or 7 years ago that we implemented Acronis (Extreme Z-IP back then!) But I seem to recall files remaining locked after the user had closed them, lingering sessions in folders preventing them from being renamed/moved/deleted. Has anyone fully retired Acronis, or attempted to, and what was your experience? Is SMB actually better nowadays than AFP? I know that Apple have supposedly improved their SMB support over the last few macOS releases, but we've been using Acronis so long that we were a bit wary of going back to SMB. We've resolved the disconnection issue so that Acronis is useable again, but the users who we had asked to use SMB for the last week or so are reporting that in general, SMB was much quicker than AFP at opening/saving files and browsing through directories. We had an issue with Acronis Files Connect recently on our file server which was causing frequent user disconnections, and just to rule out everything else we had a couple of users connect directly to the server with SMB instead of through the Acronis Files Connect client.
